Dr. Melanie grew up in Moulton, Texas where she graduated from Moulton High School in 1998. After high school, she studied at the University of Texas at Austin and obtained a degree in Chemistry in 2002. Melanie graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio in 2006 and then spent one year in residency at UTHSCSA furthering her knowledge of General Dentistry.

Dr. Melanie associated with two other practices before purchasing and opening Shiner Dental, PLLC in Shiner, Texas in July 2010. Family is very important to Melanie and that philosophy is evident because Shiner Dental, PLLC is built around the premise of family first. We want to be regarded as an integral, trusted part of the family to our local patients when it comes to their dental needs. We will offer top quality, professional service, with small town hospitality.

Melanie enjoys spending time with friends and family. She thoroughly loves her job and is married to Bobby Cowan, originally of Shiner, and they have two daughters, Camille and Claire.

Penny is our Patient Coordinator and is the first smiling face patients see when they walk though the door.

She has been an integral part of Shiner Dental for a decade coordinating patient appoints both at Shiner Dental and with our referrals, helping with back office and front office responsibilities, and being the voice on the phone that our patients have come to rely on.

Penny is married to her husband Clint and have 3 beautiful daughters: Kara, Kallie and Kaci.

Mary Ann, Dr. Cowans’s mom, brings over 20 ears of experience as a small business owner to the table to help keep operations running smoothly. She has worked for Shiner Dental for 14 years navigating the ins and outs of the dental office. Mary Ann is one of the first faces you will see entering our office. She always has a welcoming smile and strives to make you feel comfortable and secure.

For fun, Mary Ann enjoys spending time with family and friends, shopping in Canton, and taking trips to the beach. She also loves spending time with her husband, but mostly, spoiling her grandchildren.

Shandlyn hails from Hallettsville and got her education by completing the Registered Dental Hygienist Program at Wharton County Junior College in 1991. She has been cleaning teeth for over 30 years and was able to bring that experience closer to home when she joined Shiner Dental.

When fulfilling her duties, Shandlyn makes sure that she takes the necessary time with the patients to not only attain their dental hygiene needs but educate them on their personal requirements that the doctor has prescribed to ensure the best outcomes. This personal touch is also on display in how she enjoys taking care of and helping others.

Shandlyn spends her personal time with her family with trips to the deer lease to relax. She also enjoys photography and taking care of the animals at home. Together, Shandlyn and her husband Steve have two sons, Kelton and Korbin, one daughter-in-law, McKenzie, and a granddaughter, Kalyn.

 

Brooke is a 2007 graduate of Saint Paul High School. She graduated from dental hygiene school at Wharton County Junior College in 2011 and married her high school sweetheart, Adam, in 2012. She worked as a dental hygienist in Bryan, Texas from 2011 to 2017 when Adam and Brooke decided to move back home to Shiner.

Brooke started working at Shiner Dental in 2018 and is very compassionate about putting her patients at ease and ensuring a positive dental experience. In her spare time, she loves being with her three kids and family, going to sporting events, and spending time outdoors.

Callie has been in the dental field for over 15 years. She graduated from Dental Hygiene school in 2012 and has been cleaning teeth for Shiner Dental since May of 2016. Callie is passionate about making each patient visit as relaxed, comfortable, and stress free as possible.

Callie has been married since 2016 to Dillard Glass. Together, they work in the farm and ranch industry in Gonzales. They have 2 kids, Dawson and Savannah. In her spare time, Callie loves helping on the ranch, and traveling with her husband.

Rhonda Graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1981, and later attended Victoria Jr. College. She has been a Dental Assistant since 1982 and has been employed at Shiner Dental since 2018. She plays a huge part in assisting Dr. Cowan during any kind of dental treatment.

 Rhonda married her husband Timmy in 1985 and has since then found herself enjoying many outdoor activities. On her free time, Rhonda loves to be outside adventuring on the beach or lake. She also loves hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Chassity Graduated from Moulton High School in 2005 then later attended Austin Dental Assistant School in 2015 where she obtained her dental assistant license form. She has been working for Shiner Dental since July of 2014 while assisting Dr. Cowan in patient treatment and keeping everything running smoothly.

Chassity has been married to her husband, Roy, since 2012 and has 3 children, Brinley, Kylynn, and Trae. On her free time, Chassity enjoys watching her kids compete in various sports and activities. She also enjoys crafting and many other hands-on activities.

Kaitlynn graduated from Shiner High Schol in 2019 immediately attending Victoria College to obtain here license in Dental Assisting. She worked in New Braunfels for 3 years, later returning to school to continue her education in hopes of one day becoming a Dental Hygienist.

Kaitlynn started working at Shiner Dental in 2024 and is very versatile. She is helpful in the front being one of the welcoming smiles you see upon entrance. She also floats to the back and can fill a spot to help out Dr. Cowan when needed.

On her free time, Kaitlynn enjoys being outside. She loves gardening and taking trips to the hill country to go hunting, although she mostly treasures her time spent with family and friends.
